Precision Technology and Data Management (Research Associate I)


The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s Department of Animal Science is seeking a full-time Research Associate with a focus on Precision Technology and Data Management. This position will provide research technical support to the Precision Livestock and Poultry Farming Laboratory, Animal Nutrition laboratories and assistance in statistical analyses.

Daily job responsibilities may include farm (poultry, beef cattle, dairy, swine, Research and Education Centers) visits, animal care, sample collection (i.e. blood, nasal swabs, rumen samples, environmental samples), meetings with faculty to discuss research projects, working with technology data, training students on various software and technology applications, maintaining laboratory equipment, performing nutritional analyses on feeds and forages, and statistical support.



QualificationsQualifications:
Required
:
Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or closely related field and with 1-2 years of experience in research.
•Strong basic computer skills: MS-Office Suite (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook), Zoom, MS-Teams
•Strong written and oral communication skills
•Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
•Data management ability
•Data analysis skills
•Strong problem solving and deductive reasoning skills
•Ability to interact effectively with others from a variety of backgrounds
•Ability to understand and utilize sensors related to animal health and monitoring
•Ability to learn laboratory methods related to wet chemistry nutrition, serology, etc.
•Knowledge for developing engineering systems for research

Desired:
Master’s degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or closely related field and with 1-2 years of experience in research.
Demonstrated computer programming skills.
•Ability to understand and utilize sensors related to animal health and monitoring
•Experience working with electronic sensors (temperature, pressure, accelerometers, humidity, etc.)
•Animal handling skills
