Postdoctoral Research Associate in Sustainable SoilManagement

The Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science at the University ofTennessee-Knoxville has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher withexpertise in soil health and agroecology. The main goal of this position is tounderstand the agronomic and ecological responses of soil health-buildingpractices by leveraging the long-term field experiments in Tennessee. Theselected candidate is also expected to establish new field experiments toinvestigate the ecosystem services from diverse and low-input cropping practicesincluding organic farming. Thisis a grant-funded position and is contingent upon the continued funding of thegrant and satisfactory performance.



Qualifications

Qualifications andResponsibilities:


By the time of hire, the successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in SoilScience, Agronomy, Soil Ecology, Environmental Science, or a closely relatedfield with a specialization in carbon and nutrient cycling and microbialecology. Applicants should possess excellent academic and research performancerecords and strong oral and written communication skills. Preference will begiven to applicants with prior experience in one or more of the following:establishing agricultural field trials, designing and conducting experiments oncarbon and nitrogen mineralization, troubleshooting analytical instrumentsincluding CN analyzers and Gas Chromatographs, and microbial communityanalysis. A demonstrated record of high-quality publications and grantsmanshipare also very important criteria for selection. The position is based inKnoxville, TN but requires frequent travel to the experimental sites acrossTennessee.
