The Department of Genetics is one of the Basic Sciences Departments within the School of Medicine. The primary mission of this Department is research and teaching. A faculty member heads each of the research labs. The teaching centers on graduate and medical students in the field of Genetics and Genomics.

Position Description

The major focus of the Sullivan lab is the genetic dissection of complex traits of great public health importance -particularly schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, postpartum depression,anorexia nervosa, and autism. This requires collaborations with researchers in other UNC departments/centers and other institutions worldwide.Dr. Sullivan launched the UNC Center for Psychiatric Genomics (CPG), and is a founder and the lead principal investigator of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC), the largest consortium in the history of psychiatry.

The purpose of this position is to assist, coordinate and complete various administrative support activities. This individual will help orchestrate the activities of the Sullivan lab, the CPG, and the PGC.

A considerable amount of time is involved in calendar management, international and domestic travel assistance, reimbursements, authorship collation, arranging teleconferences, managing listservs, setting up meetings, maintaining websites, and other administrative needs of the lab and centers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities


Preferred Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree, preferably in human science related fields
-Minimum 2 years’ experience with interpersonal (both written and oral)
-Experience with global teleconference systems: interfacing with multiple world-wide individuals.
-Experience maintaining calendars
-Software experience: Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Access; Adobe; listservs;
PubMed Central; ORCID data export;
-Experience with web design (ex. Wordpress)
-Experience with travel arrangements, itinerary preparation, and reimbursements.
-Superior time management and organizational skills, and attention to detail
