About the Department:The Department of Graphic Design and Industrial Design within the College of Design provides teaching, research, and scholarship within the discipline of Graphic Design and Industrial Design.
The College of Design offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate study in architecture, art + design, graphic and industrial design, and graduate studies in landscape architecture, through several degree programs, including the Ph.D. in Design and Doctor of Design. The College employs a selective admissions process that ensures a highly motivated and diverse design community. As a result, entering design students consistently rank at the top of academic achievement at the University, and their graduate rate is the highest at NC State University.
Essential Job Duties:The Department of Graphic Design and Industrial Design in the College of Design at North Carolina State University seeks applicants for a full-time, three-year faculty position in the Industrial Design Program at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong Industrial Design skills and deep curiosity in emerging technologies, speculative design methods, human centered design, and/or novel approaches to traditional methods. This 3-year position includes a full-time teaching load, but no research or service requirements. This position is a great opportunity for professional designers who would like to expand their career possibilities in an academic realm, or recent masters graduates who want to experience academic life before deciding on a final career trajectory. Tenured faculty in the program are committed to mentoring the successful candidate in design pedagogy and design research, inventive teaching approaches, and writing/delivering courses that reflect the visiting faculty member’s interest areas as they contribute to the evolving curriculum.

Minimum Experience and Education:PhD in design or a terminal degree in Industrial Design (MID /MFA) or other equivalent degree.
Other Required Qualifications:Industrial Design, CAD, Sketch, Design Methods, Prototyping.
Preferred Qualifications:One year of professional Industrial Design experience.
