Position Summary:

UCI Law, founded just ten years ago, is the newest public law school in California in nearly 50 years and is currently ranked 23rd nationally by U.S. News & World Report. UCI Law seeks to train lawyers for the practice of law at the highest levels of the profession and has created a community of law students from a broad spectrum of society. The Office of Admissions and Student Financial Services oversees the annual recruitment, selection, scholarship awarding, and matriculation into UCI Law's FT JD program. Annually, it receives 3000+ applications for an incoming class consisting of 160 seats. During the review phase of the admissions cycle, members of the Admissions team conduct the initial review of each completed application it receives, assess an applicant's candidacy, and make an initial recommendation to the Admissions Committee for a final decision. Members of the Admissions Team also review and make recommendations on an admitted student's potential merit scholarship. Finally, they provide assistance to admitted students by answering questions, facilitating conversations with community members, and putting on substantive programming.

Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced admissions professional, to identify potential students, and independently reviews applications for admission, using professional judgment in determining whether applicant meets the requirements for admission, making exceptions to admissions requirements, and taking into account a variety of requirements. Recommends improvements / modifications to the program.

Required:

10+ years of reviewing applications for admission and making recommendations on candidacy.

  • 10+ years of assessing Character and Fitness issues and potential impact on candidacy for laws school program or bar exam.
  • 10+ years of working with professional or faculty Admissions Committees and making recommendations.

    Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

    Ability to interpret and communicate University policies and procedures to prospective students and the public. Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs, at UCI Law School. Thorough knowledge and understanding of college and universities offering bachelor degrees. Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.

    Preferred:

    Master's degree preferred.

    Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions. Ability to develop recruitment programs, and design effective materials.

    Special Conditions Required:

    Able to work remotely and independently.
