The Assistant Director of Gift Planning will work with the senior director to increase the number of planned giving donors, dollars pledged, and gifts realized. This position will manage Georgia State’s planned giving marketing strategy with a focus on identifying new donors. The Assistant Director will collaborate with leadership staff and unit-based gift officers to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward planned giving prospects and donors, expanding the division’s ability to build relationships with an increased number of high potential prospects. 

The mission of Gift Planning is to help donors realize their vision of leaving a legacy at GSU. We help individuals consider non-cash assets, tax advantageous opportunities, and their overall estate plans to make a lasting impact at the university.

Responsibilities  


Marketing and Communications

Provides lead project management for gift planning communications efforts to enhance program visibility among prospects. Serves as key liaison between department, staff and vendors for the design and production of print and online publications/materials and collateral. Proactively monitors and manages the needs of donors in response to marketing pieces and facilitates the response of donor inquiries. Works with the office of Annual Programs to coordinate timing of communications. Provides direction to database management staff when needing to create each appeal’s target audience and mailing list. Collaborates with GSU’s public relations department to feature donor stories and gift opportunities in various publications and mediums. Updates the gift planning website and social media presence.


Donor Engagement

Identifies new gift planning donors by working with the alumni association, emeriti association, and college boards to provide educational opportunities.  Coordinates initial donor outreach with senior director to identify new gift planning donors. Collaborates with donor relations and unit-based directors to develop stewardship plans for all gift planning donors. Works with donor relations to execute recurring Legacy Circle recognition events.

 

Collaboration and Management

Meets and communicates regularly with campus partners and development division to discuss specific gift planning projects, marketing appeals and results, and donor story ideas. Implements strategies and analyzes/reports results. Supports departmental efforts of gift counting standards, gift acceptance policies, policies and procedures, implementation of trainings, etc.  Hires and manages gift planning student assistant(s). Trains, approves time, and directs the daily work of the student assistants.  Monitors quality of work and provides feedback for growth.

 

Writing

Facilitates the gift agreement process by working foundation staff to collect donor intent information and proper paperwork. Creates content for the various communications and publications. Develops compelling donor stewardship materials and communications such as stewardship and impact reports, donor recognition, donor testimonials, and email updates. Manages sympathy card distribution. Issues internal and external status reports on a regular basis regarding assigned projects.

Data Segmentation and Analytics

Performs regular analytics of giving data through Raiser’s Edge to create targeted communications to segmented groups within the donor population. Creates reports, queries, mailing lists and other database outputs in support of gift planning activities.



QualificationsBachelor's degree and one year of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.
