University of Georgia’s Tifton Campus (http://tifton.caes.uga.edu/) is situated in the heart of one of the leading and most dynamic agricultural areas of the Southeast U.S. Tifton is a friendly city with a population of 17,000 located along I-75 in south-central Georgia (http://www.tifton.net/) with easy access to Atlanta’s International Airport. The UGA Tifton Campus includes 7,000 acres within south Georgia inclusive of field research facilities at Alma, Attapulgus, Camilla, Lyons, Midville, Plains, and Tifton. UGA researchers also collaborate with USDA Agricultural Research Service scientists based on campus. Students attending classes on the UGA Tifton Campus can earn a UGA Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, a Master’s Degree in Plant Protection, or other degree majors. The campus is also home to the National Environmentally Sound Production Agriculture Laboratory, a collaborative, interdisciplinary research program that develops agricultural methods that safeguard natural resources.

The Department of Horticulture (https://hort.caes.uga.edu/) at The University of Georgia, is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Extension Specialist of Horticulture. This is a nine-month position with a guarantee of two months summer salary, with an 80% Extension and 20% Research appointment. The responsibilities of this position will include commercial production of small fruits, with emphasis on blueberries. This commodity is an important component of the state’s horticultural industry with an annual farm gate value of over $300 million. The position will be located at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus, Tifton, Georgia.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Horticulture or related field.

The incumbent must have a record of research and/or Extension programming excellence. The incumbent must collaborate and work cooperatively with other scientists, county faculty, and industry clientele as well as have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Extension teaching and outreach is required for this position. The incumbent will be expected to establish an Extension and Research program that will address high priority problems/issues in Georgia’s small fruit production industries; provide training, resource materials, and technical assistance to County Extension Agents; procure extramural funding; publish research findings; mentor graduate students, and regularly participate in other scholarly and departmental activities. The candidate will be expected to interact effectively with growers, industry leaders, government agencies, grower organizations, as well as other disciplines, and develop regional and national collaborations when feasible.
