Position Summary:

We are seeking up to 3 field technicians to conduct spring drumming surveys of Ruffed Grouse across North Georgia. Primary duties will be to conduct standard roadside grouse surveys, along with paired off-road surveys. Technicians will also be responsible for set-up, take-down, and monitoring of Automated Recording Units (ARUs). Technicians enter data on a daily basis, and may be asked to enter acoustical sound data from the ARUs.

Technicians will work 6 days per week (up to 40 hours per week). Working hours will vary depending on distance to survey points each morning, but expect very early mornings to early/mid-afternoon work schedules. Field housing and a work vehicle will be provided. Technicians will need a backpack and hiking boots.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

Working towards or have a B.S. in Wildlife Ecology or related field. Preference will be given to applicants with experience conducting forest bird surveys and working independently in the field.

2) Ability to identify eastern birds by sight and sound
3) Comfort with navigating off-road locations
4) Organizational skills with attention to detail
5) Strong work ethic and positive attitude
6) Interest in birds and conservation
7) Strong observational and listening skills.
8) Ability to navigate using a GPS.
9) Ability to follow directions and work independently

Physical Demands:

Endure long workdays beginning before sunrise, drive long distances, hike through dense forests, navigate steep/uneven terrain, and work in hot, humid conditions with ticks, chiggers, poison ivy, and the occasional rattlesnake, while sometimes carrying up to 25lbs. of field equipment.
