San Diego State University, College of Health and Human Services is seeking an experienced, innovative and energetic academic leader to serve as Director of the School of Nursing. The position of Director is a full-time tenured faculty position, and is available as of July 2021 in a CCNE accredited School of Nursing (SON) that offers generic baccalaureate, RN to BS, and Master’s degree programs.
Qualified applicants must hold an earned doctorate in nursing or a doctorate in a related field with a Master’s in Nursing, teaching and administrative experience in academic nursing programs, scholarly achievements, and have experience in collaborating with community partners and organizations ethnic and culturally diverse populations communities. Research and active participation in public and professional activities preferred. Applicants must also be eligible for or currently licensed to practice nursing in California, and meet California Board of Registered Nursing requirements to serve as a School of Nursing Director.
The Director of the School of Nursing will be responsible for meeting all accreditation requirements set forth by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and regulatory requirements by the California Board of Registered Nursing. The Director is the academic administrator of the School of Nursing and is responsible for oversight of curriculum development and evaluation, faculty recruitment and clinical placements for students. The Director is also responsible for managing the department’s resources – human, fiscal, and physical and providing effective leadership and direction for academic programs. Fostering communication and collaboration across disciplines and colleges at SDSU will be important to support the program. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services. Salary and rank for this full time position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Salary and benefits are competitive and are commensurate with experience and academic preparation. The School supports the teacher-scholar model that emphasizes teaching and research. We anticipate beginning applicant review in December 2020. The position will remain open until it is filled.
The SON has dynamic educational programs, uses creative and innovative teaching methods, and offers research opportunities and support in acquiring funding. The School of Nursing currently offers a pre-licensure BSN program, a post-licensure RN to BSN program, and graduate concentrations in Advanced Practice Nursing of Adults and Elderly (NP/CNS) and Nursing Leadership in Health Care Systems.
