Paramedicine Lab Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all laboratory and simulation activities within the paramedicine program.Ensures the paramedicine program meets all minimum requirements as set forth by OSU-OKC, Oklahoma State Department of Health, National Registry of EMTs, and CAAHEP.This position will monitor and supervise the maintenance of all lab equipment, supervise all lab instructors, and assist with all simulation activities for EMR, EMT, AEMT, and paramedic students.

Essential Job Functions:

1.Coordinates Paramedicine Program lab activities, to include but not limited to:

a.Ensure the program and students meet all minimum lab requirements established by OSDH and by OSU-Oklahoma City.

b.Develop, evaluate and revise lab packets, related learning materials and documents, and lab procedures, in concert with the EMS Program Director.

c.Develop and maintain hard-copy and computer-based calendars and systems for scheduling and tracking student lab shifts.

d.Monitor and supervise the maintenance of related lab records for students and instructors, in concert with Paramedicine Program clerical staff.

e.Interview and approve for hire Paramedicine Lab Instructors, in concert with the Paramedicine Program Director, Faculty, and Staff.

f.Supervise the Paramedicine Lab and Lab Instructors.

2.Demonstrates the safe and proper use of lab equipment and hazardous or bio hazardous materials. Performs monthly checks on lab safety equipment as directed by Program Director and/or Department Head. Maintain prep/ storage room, supply, and equipment inventory. Monitor disposal of supplies classroom and lab; monitor return and safe storage of supplies and equipment.

3.Assist with lab instruction and the simulation pre-brief and debriefing process.

4.Participate with faculty members in student evaluation by ensuring the students meet the prescribed objectives in the acquisition of skills or behaviors practiced in the simulation laboratory setting and by providing supervision and assistance to students in the simulation center. Maintain student and course records according to institutional guidelines.

5.Provide orientation to the simulation center to Paramedicine faculty, Paramedicine students, staff and others in simulation technology as needed.

6.Collaborate with faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching effectiveness in the simulation laboratory. Assist in the development of new curricula that is supported by simulation activities. Collect and analyze simulation data for the purpose of process and quality improvement and present to faculty as related.

7.Assist with the development, implementation, revision, and enforcement of simulation center policies and procedures.

8.Participate in public relations activities and tours in an effort to establish and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, industry partners, vendors, students, and the public.

9.Collaborate with faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching effectiveness in the simulation laboratory and to schedule open lab practice sessions.

10.Act as a liaison with the Paramedicine program and other departments in scheduling the use of the simulation center.

11.Assist in the simulation center budget planning process and participate in departmental budget planning. Provide purchase requests and quotes for new purchases. Establish and maintain vendor relations for technology equipment.

12. Collaborate with faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching effectiveness in the simulation laboratory.

13.Participate in continuous improvement planning through assessment of learning outcomes.

14.Participate in institutional, departmental, and committee meetings.

15. Provide orientation to the simulation center to Paramedicine faculty, Paramedicine students, staff and others as needed.

16.Assist in the development, planning, and implementation of inter-professional simulation scenarios.

17.Prepare lab for classes, help dismantle and clean up after lab activities.

18.Assist all Paramedicine Faculty and Part-time Faculty in the preparation of material for other Paramedicine classes as needed.

19.Provide support to other faculty in the development and implementation of new simulation technology based curricula.

20. Assist and work with Paramedicine Program Director to complete program tasks

21.Completes all mandatory training and participated in a minimum of two professional development each year.

22.Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Education:

Minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.

Work Experience:

    Previous experience teaching entry-level EMT and paramedic courses. Minimum two years of direct field experience in EMS at the level of paramedic
License/Certification:

Current National Registry of EMTs Certification at the Paramedic LevelCurrent (or eligible) Oklahoma State Department of Health License as a ParamedicKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Strong communication and organizational skills.
    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet, and Electronic Mail.
    Basic record keeping skills.
    Coordinate between Paramedicine Program Director, Faculty, and Adjunct Faculty for coverage of all clinical shifts.
    Ability to follow health and safety procedures and regulations.
    Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
    Ability to manage multiple priorities imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, and public/student contact.
    Ability to support EMS students as well as other healthcare students and professionals to achieve clinical learning in the simulated patient care environment.
    Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism
    Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior

Preferred experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
    Experience in EMS Education technology, simulation technology, or related area.
    Knowledge and experience programming and troubleshooting human patient simulators, ability to manage online and virtual learning/instructional systems, and development and assessment of programs and student learning outcomes.
    Familiarity with National Registry of EMTs skills and best practices

Working Conditions:

    Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends in an often times busy and noisy environment.Coordinator will perform duties in the hospital setting, inside structures or in laboratory simulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting up to 75 lbs. unassisted, bending, standing, climbing or walking.Any items weighting more than 45 lbs. must be team lifted per OSU safety regulations.
  • Must be able to handle and safely dispose of solutions, and any hazardous materials wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computer usage
