The College of Arts & Media has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) IT Principal Professional position.

College of Arts & Media
As the first college in Colorado devoted exclusively to arts and entertainment, the College of Arts & Media understands the influence of modern trends on traditional art forms.  We combine the latest technology with traditional methods, and we encourage our students to incorporate their discoveries of art's emerging dimensions with our comprehensive instruction on its classical forms. The college has three distinct departments, Music & Entertainment Industries Studies (MEIS), Film & Television FITV) and Visual Arts (VA). The MEIS Department primarily focuses on commercial music styles. Students are given the option to choose from four distinct emphasis areas of study: Performance, Singer/ Songwriter, Music Business, and Recording Arts. The Department of FITV offers students the opportunity to become knowledgeable about working in both Theatre and Film while delving into their special area of interest. The Department of VA offers degree emphasis areas in Visual Arts include Art History, Digital Animation, Digital Design, Painting and Drawing, Illustration, Photography, and Transmedia-Sculpture.

Job Family Description:
Jobs in this career family develop, maintain, and support computer systems, software and networks.  Functions include enterprise operations, distributed computing, academic computing, research computing, computer hardware and software management, computer networking, telecommunications, systems development, database administration, server administration, website management, programming, desktop support, and help desk operations.

Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level.  Principal Professionals are either work leads over others or are considered a subject matter expert in a particular area.

Nature of Work: 
This position is responsible for ensuring the successful, continuous operation of the college’s information systems and technology. Sustaining an IT environment conducive to the college’s needs primarily includes: overseeing college IT procedures, purchasing and management of hardware and software, ensuring compliance with campus procedures, maintaining the IT budget, assessing and recommending advancing technological interventions and opportunities, focusing on the continual improvement of operational effectiveness to support best practices and innovation in IT, and overseeing of the full lifecycle of technology.   

Examples of Work Performed:

Leadership:

  • Provides subject matter expertise and recommendations to leadership in the development of strategic plans, processes and policies for Information Technology Management, security, and business continuity.
  • Provides guidance to internal constituencies such as Deans, Department Chairs, faculty, and staff.
  • Leads and directs operations in CAM and CAM/CLAS computer labs.
  • Represents CAM on appropriate university committees.
  • Proactively interact with faculty and administration to ensure IT needs are met.
  • Works with Assistant Dean to develop budget recommendations.
  • Participates in purchasing processes.
  • Lead processes to assure digital security and privacy throughout CAM.
Supervision:

  • Mentor, oversee, and provide supervision to IT staff and student employees. 
  • Ensure projects and work is executed efficiently and accurately.
IT Hardware/Software: 

  • Stays abreast of new technologies and develops strategies and processes to bring new technologies to the lab and teaching environments.
  • Explores new technologies, analyzes and recommends technologies and applications for integration into CAM’s courses and educational initiatives.
  • Manage core IT infrastructure including computers, software, software licenses and IT networks to ensure high availability of all IT systems.
  • Monitor and evaluate current trends in technology related to desktop and laptop support.
  • Manages replacement and rotation of computer lab workstations.
  • Develops and maintains a database and tagging system to track all CAM-owned technology
  • Makes recommendations regarding ways to use existing technology and new advances in technology to strengthen and secure the college’s IT infrastructure and curriculum delivery system.
  • Ensures legal compliance for software licensing.
Misc:

  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position has been established at $70,000 to $80,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of experience in systems administration and/or information technology support services, which includes as least (1) year as a team lead.
Substitution: A combination of relevant education and related technical/paraprofessional experience, totaling 4 years, may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree, but not for the specific experience.

Conditions of Employment: 
Must be willing and able to successfully pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience overseeing and/or leading information technology operations.
  • Experience working in a higher education or government setting.
  • Direct supervisory experience over IT staff.
  • Expert knowledge and experience working with Window’s based operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory, CMSs and VPN products. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working as an IT administrator overseeing and performing installations, configurations and support of these technologies.
Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to maintain and uphold strict confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with providing remote learning support.
  • Able to communicate in a positive and effective manner, across various methods. 
  • High work ethic and self-motivation to initiate projects and work independently to achieve goals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Commitment to advance equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to support a variety of Windows and Mac-based operating systems including hardware and software needs.
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting experience.
  • Apple System Administration skills appropriate for management of an environment of 200+ Mac computers.
  • Expertise in security issues regarding computer systems and software.
  • Knowledge of academic technology systems and applications with experience advancing these efforts to improve teaching, learning and academic support. 
  • Knowledge and familiarity with all aspects of PC, Macs, and server (both physical and virtual) environments
  • Expertise in networking administration (printers, admin access, etc.).
  • Able to be flexible and shift priorities.
  • Knowledge of industry advances, best practices, and trends in technology.
  • Expertise in classroom technology (projection systems, audio equipment, specialized software, etc.).
