Position Summary:

Under the authority of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Integrative Health, and as a member of the leadership team, the incumbent provides advisory and program/project execution services to the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute in the areas of program development, evaluation, and assessment. Oversees the development of non-credit and for-credit programs, certificates and other self-supporting programs, evaluation, and strategy for a wide range of current and new programming. The Director will provide high level research and analysis and collaborate with the Chief Administration Officer and SSIHI faculty towards the building of a suite of programs that align with the mission and vision of the future SSIHI including dissemination of information and ideas on the AVC's behalf. The Director will contribute to an environment of innovation, collaboration, and overall educational excellence, establish instructional collaborations between campus partners and other College of Health Sciences schools, and enhance the Undergraduate and Graduate programs profile and expand their reach.

Independently oversees a moderately sized academic or research program and represents the program to outside organizations. Oversees all administrative operations, finance, human resources and facilities for program. Designs and develops major program components, and administers the full range of the program's operational requirements. Works with faculty on formulating short-term planning and procedures. Develops and organizes conferences and other public forums. Works under direction of Principal Investigator to establish center agenda, funding and objectives.

Required:
  • Bachelor degree with at least 5-7 years of experience in higher education and academic programming or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research.
  • Advanced knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
  • Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
  • Highly skilled fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of program development, cross-organizational partnerships and external stakeholder management.
  • Ability to take initiative and integrate diverse opportunities and complex viewpoints into simple program/business plans.
  • Ability to be creative and enjoy working within a new (start-up), small, entrepreneurial environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community oriented.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English in order to read, understand and interpret complex documents, including detailed information on University policies and procedures related to academic programs and research units.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to form strong partnerships.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, faculty, students, and supervisors to promote teamwork, diversity, and inclusiveness within the Program in Public Health and the Campus.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).


Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of UC and UCI governance, instructional and research programs, general catalogue, degree requirements, student affairs, and academic and research policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of UCI campus organizational structure, departments/schools, and central administrative offices, their services, roles and responsibilities, and ability to work collaboratively with these personnel.
  • Working knowledge in the development of professional, self-supporting, or entrepreneurial programs and degrees in higher education.
  • Working knowledge of effective pedagogy used in the development and instructional design of online and hybrid course modalities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google software suites.
  • Experience working with international academic, cross-continental, and special programs.

Special Conditions Required:

Occasional travel and evening and weekends.
