The primary responsibility of the Nurse Practitioner is to administer direct primary care to Lehigh University undergraduate and graduate students. This care consists of evaluating the patient's stated complaints and interpreting their physical and emotional conditions, making a diagnosis and proposing a plan of care. Health and wellness promotion is also provided through one to one contact and community programs.

Accountabilities:
  1. Provide primary care services to students
    • Assess student's health status through analyzing complaints, concerns and reviewing physical and emotional status; including evaluation, testing and management of students presenting with COVID-19 related symptoms and their close contacts
    • Diagnose and treat concerns within the scope of practice through education, diagnostic tests, medications, specialist referrals, physical therapy and other appropriate interventions
    • Promote health and wellness during patient visits and throughout the campus community by disseminating information and educational programs
  2. Perform administrative functions
    • Serve on administrative committees related to current practices and service delivery as required
    • Routinely assess quality assurance, review protocols and immunization policies
    • Annually review HIPPA, bloodborne pathogen, universal precaution and MSDS protocols
  3. Update skills, re-certify as appropriate, application of evidenced based research to practice
    • Maintain current PA State RN and Family CRNP licensure with prescriptive authority
    • Obtain and maintain current DEA
    • Maintain current BLS certification
    • Obtain required Continuing Education Units for licensure and certification
    • Attend conference; including local, regional and national meetings
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required
  2. Doctoral Degree in Nursing Practice preferred
  3. PA RN, Family CRNP with Prescriptive Authority is required
  4. National certification as a Family CRNP is required
  5. Current DEA and BLS certification is required
  6. Three to five years related work experience
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  8. Solid writing ability and organizational skills
  9. Excellent analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  10. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
  11. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification
Special Considerations:
  • Vacations and floating holidays are taken during breaks (Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer) only; decisions are based on adequate coverage of the Health Center
  • This position works with minors
  • Healthcare professionals must be up-to-date on all recommended vaccinations per CDC/ ACIP guidelines including annual seasonal Flu vaccine unless medically exempt
  • Periods of high volume/workload may be required for medical emergencies, athletic physicals or episodic appointments
  • Required to take on call responsibilities
  • Occasional evening, holiday or weekend hours
