Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The Office of Admissions reports to the Academic Affairs. The purpose of the office is to promote, market, process and render admissions decisions for all students making application to the University. To this end it is the responsibility of the members the admissions staff to build awareness about the university with the general public, convert interested leads into applications, process applications for admissions and render admissions decisions. Once an admissions decision is rendered the office staff follow-ups with accepted students to encourage them to enroll, notifies other entities on campus of the student’s enrollment intent, tracks statistical trends and is expected to meet the targeted enrollment goal for new students.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Assistant Director of Admission is the primary source of articulating information about the University to prospective students, families, educational leaders in their designated recruitment territory and is responsible for meeting the enrollment goal for the targeted region. The Assistant Director of Admission 1.) conducts programs and activities to meet enrollment goals of a region (face to face and virtually); 2.) drafts original correspondence, answers e-mails and telephones prospective students, parents and school officials as need to disseminate information about the University; 3.) makes individual judgments regarding the status of an applicant’s file, renders admissions decision and identifies students for merit scholarship consideration; 4.) contacts accepted students to encourage them to enroll; and 5.) This person will also assist with other duties as assigned.
Position requires that the individual have a valid driver’s license, make presentations before small and large groups and is capable of setting up display materials.Description of Work Continued::
Description of Responsibilities & Duties:
1.) Conducts programs and activities (face to face and virtually); to meet enrollment goals of a region, to include the following:
a. Identifies potential sources of students in an assigned geographic territory
b. Represents the University at high school visits, college day/night programs
c. Conducts information sessions for groups and individuals
d. Conducts campus tours
2.) Corresponds with prospective students, parent and school officials as needed to disseminated information about the University, to include:
a. Prepares letters and other written documents, sends and responds to e-mail messages, and has telephone conversations with prospective students and their parents and school officials.
b. Schedules on-campus visits and meetings with prospective students and their parents and school officials.
3) Makes admissions decisions about applicants, to include:
a. Reviews applicants’ files to ensure they are complete.
b. Evaluates applicant’s credentials in light of admission criteria and makes judgment about student’s admissibility.
4.) Once the judgment is made, they are empowered to commit the University to an admission decision.
a. Judges credentials by scholarship criteria and recommends scholarship consideration as appropriate.
5.) Contacts accepted students to encourage them to enroll, to include:
a. Makes telephone calls, send e-mails messages, and makes visits with accepted students to encourage them to enroll.
b. Communicate with other offices to seek support in encouraging accepted students to enroll.
c. Assist with programs for newly admitted students.
6.) Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director of Admissions.
7. Must have personal internet access since teleworking might be required.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements::
Bachelor’s degree required. The position requires a valid driver’s license.Knowledge skills and abilities::
Must have the ability to render decisions based on the interpretation of program policy and procedures preferably at the collegiate level in student services. Strong communication skills, both written and oral are required.Preferred Qualifications::
Experience working in marketing, admissions or a higher education environment.
