Boston University’s School of Theatre, in the College of Fine Arts, invites applications for the position of full-time Assistant Professor of Theatre (Acting) with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021.

CFA’s School of Theatre is a prominent beacon for the arts in New England. With accomplished, award-winning alumni (including actors Julianne Moore, Alfre Woodard, Jason Alexander, Geena Davis); five dedicated theatres, including the stunning state-of-the-art Booth Theatre; 40 faculty who are actively engaged in the profession of theatre-making, CFA’s School of Theatre is widely recognized as one of the premier theatre programs in the nation.

The successful candidate will teach primarily in the School’s BFA Acting and Theatre Arts programs, advise and mentor students, maintain a vibrant professional creative or scholarly research agenda, and provide ongoing service to the university and profession. Applicants should possess a strong background in acting and a knowledge of contemporary training and performance techniques for the 21st-century actor, a willingness to work in a collaborative spirit among a team of faculty with varied approaches, and a proven ability to teach beginning and advanced acting courses. Preferred qualifications include significant professional experience as an actor, director, or devisor; experience with Black, Latinx, Asian/Asian American, and/or Indigenous American theatre/performance; an understanding of culturally responsive and trauma-informed pedagogy; and experience teaching voice and speech techniques for the actor.

Required Skills:

The successful candidate will have earned a terminal degree (MFA, DFA or PhD), or an equivalent record of professional accomplishments; and will have provided evidence of potential to develop a nationally recognizable profile in a theatrical field.
