Position Summary:

The faculty will be responsible for educational leadership, student instruction, and student advising in the Communications and Literature Department.

Education:

*Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Speech Communication or closely related discipline with additional coursework or certification in Rhetoric & Composition, or with relevant experience in writing and ability to pursue such coursework or certification in Composition within three years of employment in a program that best fits the pedagogical needs of Penn College (in consultation with the Dean); OR a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Rhetoric & Composition, English or closely related discipline with additional coursework or certification in Speech Communication, or the ability to pursue such coursework or certification in Speech Communication within three years of employment in a program that best fits the pedagogical needs of Penn College (in consultation with the Dean). (Minimum)
*Earned Ph.D. in Speech Communication, Rhetoric & Composition, or English. (Highly Desired)

Experience:

*One (1) year successful full-time teaching experience equivalent to or greater than 24 credit hours or three (3) years successful part-time teaching experience equivalent to or greater than 24 credit hours in Speech Communication and/or English Composition at the college level. (Minimum)
*Experience developing and instructing online or hybrid courses in a higher education environment. (Desired)
*Successful experience in curriculum and course development. (Desired)

Responsibilities and Duties :

-Teach a full load (15 credits) per semester of speech communication and English composition. (Essential)
-Write and update course syllabi; assist with curriculum review, revision, development, and assessment; contribute to department assessment of and service to the general education per core curriculum. (Essential)
-Advise, schedule, and maintain accurate records on students. (Essential)
-Engage in professional development in discipline and instructional methodology appropriate to field of study. (Essential)
-Maintain office hours according to contractual guidelines. (Essential)
-Contribute to the betterment of the College through department and school committee participation. (Essential)
-Contribute to the betterment of the College through College-wide committee participation. (Desired)

As such, are required to use the following elements of the Learning Management System (LMS): Upload all syllabi, timely use of the grade feature, and collection of digital student work and distribution of digital course materials.

Pay Rate / Salary:

Commensurate with credentials submitted as applied to the College’s Faculty Salary System. As a point of reference, the salary range for new full-time faculty hired in various disciplines throughout the College for the 2018/19 academic year is $55,665 to $73,384.

Additional Information:

The wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment for full-time teaching faculty, counselors and librarians (all regular College funded positions and certain grant/contract funded positions) are determined by the negotiated Agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association.
