The Arch Program is designed to provide comprehensive support to students with diagnosed learning disabilities and/or other learning differences, such as attention and memory difficulties, who would benefit from additional academic support while taking part in a traditional college curriculum. Candidates for this position should have significant experience and prior education/professional development related to teaching this population of students.

The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean College create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds. In addition, instructors should be prepared to accommodate students who may need to isolate for a period during the course by providing recorded classes and supplemental engagement outside of class.

We are seeking an adjunct instructor with experience teaching 2xx-level English literature or history courses that integrate scaffolding learning. The Core Distribution courses in Humanities are theme-based and interdisciplinary courses in English and History. Each course develops skills in the following areas: reading, writing, critical thinking, information literacy, problem solving and decision making.

The adjunct pay rate is $3,200.00/section, with each section meeting 2.5 hours/week. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week virtually for each section they teach. The English and/or History program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty will be expected to make active use of the learning management system (MyCourses) at least at a minimum level established by the College.

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in English, Literacy Education, History, or related discipline area is required;
  • Proven effectiveness teaching students with diagnosed learning disabilities is also required;
  • Face-to-face and online college teaching experience is preferred, particularly with first- and second-year undergraduates;
  • Strong computer skills, the ability to access the Internet, the College's online resources and website and a willingness to be responsive to students via digital tools are also requirements;
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Moodle, our learning management system, and classroom media is necessary;
  • The successful candidate will possess expertise in learner-centered teaching, use of technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy, and the ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles.
