Applications are invited for the position of Chief, Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2021 or as mutually agreed upon. This appointment is for a five-year term renewable upon successful review.

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital provides exemplary clinical care for the inner city, as well as highly specialized tertiary services and excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate education, while also supporting the culture of discovery through research. In addition to providing subspecialized and general otolaryngology clinical care, the department members collaborate with many other departments including Respirology (Upper airway pathology, Cystic Fibrosis Clinic), Endocrinology (Thyroid/Parathyroid surgery, Pituitary Centre of Excellence), Neurosurgery (Skull base surgery, lateral and anterior approach), and Trauma/Critical Care programs (Neck trauma, airway, percutaneous tracheotomy).

The Department seeks an outstanding academic individual with proven administrative experience and strong leadership skills who, as Chief, will continue to foster excellence in clinical care and teaching while fostering research within the Department of Otolaryngology. The qualified applicant shall hold a Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent, and be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario and should be eligible to warrant appointment to the Department of Otolaryngology -Head & Neck Surgery of the University of Toronto, at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Estimated remuneration will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.

St. Michael’s Hospital is a leading academic health science centre, fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. More than 16,500 surgeries are performed and the critically ill are treated in 58 ventilator beds in four separate intensive care units. We are currently opening the new Peter Gilgan Patient Care Tower, which will have enlarged inpatient facilities including intensive care units for cardiac and medical-surgical patients and five additional state-of-the-art operating rooms.
