Organizational Unit Overview:The mission of the college is to serve as a national model for transforming the health of rural under served regions through excellence and innovation in nursing education, leadership, research, scholarship and practice.
The East Carolina University College of Nursing (ECUCON) seeks applicants for a full time tenure or tenure-track faculty position. Academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications of the applicant.
The ECUCON has over 500 graduate students including over 100 DNP and 35 PhD students. The College of Nursing is a part of the Health Sciences Division that includes Allied Health, Dental Science, and a School of Medicine committed to excellence in teaching and scientific inquiry. Additionally, strong interprofessional research opportunities exist in varied centers and institutes within the division and university, such as the Center for Health Disparities, North Carolina Agro-Medicine Institute, and Diabetes and Obesity Institute.
Job Duties :RN/BSN faculty are responsible for teaching a variety of courses in the RN/BSN option. All courses are offered through a distance education format. Courses may be writing intensive and may have a focus on domestic or global diversity and may include service learning. Faculty may also be asked to teach courses in other options and College of Nursing departments depending upon teaching needs and expertise of the faculty. Preference will be given to applicants with online teaching experience. The faculty will report directly to the Director of the RN/BSN option in the Department of Baccalaureate Education.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Planning, teaching and evaluating primarily online RN/BSN courses.
• Collaborate with all RN/BSN faculty and director to continuously evaluate and revise, as necessary, the courses and curriculum based on current evidenced-based practice.
• Ensures that RN/BSN students are evaluated for various course and program outcomes.
• Teaches selected courses in area of expertise.
This is a 12-month position.
Minimum Education/Experience :Tenure track positions require a doctorate in nursing or related field, from an appropriately accredited institution. Non-tenure requires Master’s degree in nursing from an appropriately accredited institution. A valid non-restricted North Carolina nursing license is required upon employment. Has prior teaching experience in baccalaureate programs and with online courses. Has a minimum of 2 calendar years prior, full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :A valid non-restricted North Carolina nursing license is required upon employment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :• A PhD in Nursing is preferred or a closely related discipline with a graduate degree in nursing.
• Preference will be given to applicants with recent online teaching experience.
• Certification as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) is preferred.
• Experience teaching in an RN/BSN program is preferred.
