Job Description:

Full-time professional staff member of the Department of Housing and Residence Life (HRL), within the
Division of Student Affairs (SA), at the University of Florida (UF). Provide leadership and management for
a housing area of 424 apartments, four (4) Community Assistants (CAs) and twenty (20) desk assistants.
Serve as an important communications link between students, staff members, faculty members, and UF
administration. Relate to the needs of a non-traditional resident population, including professional/
graduate students and staff members from different backgrounds, disciplines, and cultures. Provide
follow-up to student, staff, parental, faculty, and administrative concerns and needs. 24/7 on-call status for
handling emergencies in direct area of responsibility, and serve in an on-call rotation for HRL. For this
reason, the person in this position is required to live in the assigned residence area; an apartment with
basic amenities is provided as a perquisite. Most difficult, multifaceted role calling for extreme emotional
stability, and excellent human relations and administrative skills.

- Assists and coordinates with area maintenance, safety & security, custodial, occupancy
management, finance department, and other UF departments to maintain and enhance Graduate and
Family Housing areas of responsibility. Responsible for monitoring and maintaining staff compliance with
policy and procedure. Oversight of GFH’s safety and security educational campaign.

- Select, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop four (4) Community Assistants and twenty (20)
part-time office staff who jointly assist in developing a residential environment / community for learning.
Conduct weekly individual meetings and monthly area staff meetings. Design, coordinate, and implement
training and development program for all GFH part-time staff (monthly meetings for Community Assistants
& bi-annual meetings for all part-time staff).

- Maintains communication within HRL and with other UF administration, faculty, and staff.
Responsible for area office(s) and common area(s) cleanliness and organization. Coordinates with
residents, staff, area maintenance, building services, and safety & security to maintain and improve the
quality of area facilities, grounds, and apartments. Serves as advisor for Village Mayor(s). Communicates
and coordinates with UF’s Baby Gator Developmental Center located at Diamond 305. Serve as GFH
representative on HRL Green Team (sustainability) committee.

- Responsible for:
• Promoting and coordinating academic, educational, and life-skills initiatives within area(s).
• Identifying and communicating student, staff, and residential community needs.
• Serving as a member of UF and Housing committees and task forces.
• Attending departmental, UF, and (inter)national trainings, conferences and conventions as funds provide.
• Being aware of new developments and reviewing current literature in chosen profession.
• Liaison between GFH and Gainesville, Alachua, and other community resources.

- Serve as an administrator for University and Housing community standards. Perform case
management as a hearing officer for UF through consultation with the Assistant Director of Housing for
Graduate & Family Housing and Residence Life & Education's (RLE) Office of Conduct and Community
Standards. Create, review, and process incident reports / follow-up. Serve as an educator during
discussions with involved resident(s) in an attempt to instill an understanding of the educational /
community philosophy of the student conduct process. [Note: Guidelines are established that aid the
incumbent in the decision-making process and to ensure campus wide consistency.]

- Maintain a work schedule designed for maximum availability and involvement with the entire GFH
community and the opening of area offices. Remain available for students during some evening hours for
community meetings and events.

- Responsible for performing weekly and vacation on-call duty coverage as directed. Professional
on-call duty rotation includes both campus and area responsibilities. Responsible for maintaining logs and
reports, while on duty.

Expected Salary:

$48,000

Pay Range Based on Market:

(Annualized)

Lower reference point: $33,800 Midpoint: $43,900 Upper Reference point: $54,000

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications:EDUCATION & TRAINING:
• Master's degree plus two years of appropriate experience
• Educational background to include a major in some aspect of higher education, preferably in student
personnel, counseling, or administration
EXPERIENCE:
• Graduate or undergraduate on-campus living experience at a college or university
• Experience with international populations
KNOWLEDGE:
