Business Manager, Haslam College of Business

The Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a full-time Business Manager. Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Financial Information Office, the Business Manager provides daily oversight of the Haslam College of Business Undergraduate department's fiscal and administrative operations and manages the Financial Information Office's budget. Manages the business, financial, budgeting and administrative operations within the Haslam College of Business; manages the 4 staff members involved with maintenance of these functions.
Oversees the unit’s budget and accounts for research and non-research expenditures and income accounts, plus has full responsibility for all business and financial operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable and receivable, procurement, research administration, and FIO equipment inventory.
Oversees the Human Resource functions to include creating and modifying positions, appointment of new employees, promotions of current employees, and termination paperwork. Provides routine budget summaries. Provides guidance and communication to HCB departments on various endeavors and fiscal policy changes. Business Manager tasks include annual proposed budget preparation, regular fiscal operations, and HR functions. Official reviewer of IRIS transactions before releasing them to the department heads for approval. Responsible for the reconciliation of more than 200 E&G cost centers and 1,400 federal & private fund cost centers including the budget development, revenues, and expenditures, disbursing over $200 million dollars, which help achieve the college's strategic goals. Performs other related duties as required.



Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications:
10 years of accounting/financial/HR experience without a Bachelor’s Degree
7 years of accounting/financial/HR experience with a Bachelor’s Degree

The business manager position is one of leadership that sets the tone of many administrative functions within the department. Essential skills include:
Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient for effective interactions with a broad range of individuals, including faculty
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent writing, grammar, and proofreading skills
Decisiveness and extensive problem-solving skills
Professional integrity, including a thorough understanding of confidentiality
Knowledge of standard accounting principles
Knowledge of IRIS
Competence with common office and database software
