DescriptionRegular Full-time, Non-exempt, Paygrade 36
Participates in the maintenance,operation and construction of University electrical systems, both undergroundand overhead, including but not limited to 15 and 5 KV distribution, outdoorlighting systems, secondary electrical systems and all related equipment suchas switches, transformers, capacitors, and generators. Performs underground oroverhead construction, cable installation, splicing operations, and transformerand switch installations. Keeps records as required, plans and coordinateswork, participates in the scheduling of outages, and orders materials andequipment. Works well with fellow employees and oversees contractors.Coordinates operations with local utilities and other entities as required.Complies with all safety regulations and insures that all work is performed toUniversity standards and code requirements. Completes confined space entrypermits, work permits, or other such requirement prior to commencing work.Creates and documents written plans and directs or participates in tailgatemeetings prior to beginning work. Works overtime and responds to emergencies asrequired. Works special events as required. Operates and insures propermaintenance of heavy equipment such as line trucks, digger derricks, aerialbucket trucks, lifts and other special equipment and tools. Two positions available.




QualificationsMinimumQualifications:

 High school Diploma or equivalentApplicantmust have, and maintain, a valid State of Tennessee, CDL Class B Driver’sLicense.

 A minimum of two years of experiencein high voltage or electrical distribution system construction and maintenancetechniques or, one year with formal training. Experience or training in propersafety requirements and procedures is a must. Experience with fifteen kilovoltunderground systems would be very helpful. Experience working in a teamatmosphere. (Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-yearbasis.)  Knowledge of proper safetyrequirements and procedures is a must. Specialized experience with fifteenkilovolt underground systems would be very helpful.  

  Must have a passion for the work andan understanding of system operation.

 Must possess or have the ability toacquire a good working knowledge of all electrical and distribution systempractices. A knowledge of industrial electricity and job skills. The ability toread blueprints or plans and procure necessary materials. The ability to workon live high voltage and other electrical system components whennecessary.  The ability to climb utilitypoles, sports lighting poles and structures. The ability to work in confinedspaces, under adverse conditions and in high places. The ability to performhard physical work for long periods; to lift, pull and push heavy loads asnecessary. Good hand and eye coordination, mechanical aptitude and reasonableintelligence. A good working knowledge of high voltage tools, equipment andmachinery. must have or be able to acquire CPR training and other life safetyskills as required by OSHA or other regulatory agencies. The ability to workwith others in a cooperative manner to complete work, with or without directsupervision. 

The applicant must be computer literate or able to learn thecomputer skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Applicant shall be certified or have the ability, trainingand experience to become certified for specific operations. Applicant must beable to work with or without supervision and work well with others, mustdemonstrate good attendance habits, be dependable, and willing to work flexibleschedules as necessary.
