Position Summary::

The position involves teaching undergraduate courses in the department plus research and service commitments. The philosopher hired must play an instrumental role in the maintenance and development of the Department’s Philosophy and Medicine specialized major, and assist the Director of the McCollough Pre-Medical Institute

UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA, Tuscaloosa, AL. The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall 2021. Undergraduate teaching, with usual non-teaching duties. AOS or AOC in the Philosophy of Medicine broadly construed. Teaching competence in one or more of the following is also desirable: History of Philosophy, especially Ancient; Philosophy of Religion, Aesthetics, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Gender, Race, Disability or non-Western philosophy. Ph.D. in philosophy should be completed by August 15, 2021. The University of Alabama is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. The Department will use a blind review of each applicant’s CV and writing sample to generate a short list of semi-finalists. Those to be invited for a remote interview will be selected from the semi-finalists. Each applicant must submit the following: (1) a cover letter, (2) a CV, (3) a writing sample as “Other Document 1”, (4) evidence of teaching excellence as “Other Document 2,” and (5) at least three letters of recommendation submitted by mail or Interfolio directly to:
