Assistant Professor of Theatre Design Status

Nebraska Wesleyan University invites applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor of Design for the Theatre Arts Program. The start date for this position will be August 2021.

This faculty member will play a primary role in coordinating and expanding NWU’s BFA Design and Technology program. Responsibilities in this position include teaching undergraduate design classes and fulfilling two design responsibilities each semester. Having a versatile range of design training, knowledge of design history and styles, and experience with current design technology is preferred.

The Professor will work closely with the Technical Director and Costume Shop Manager, help facilitate communication with guest designers and mentor student designers. Designer has access to a CNC router, substantial scenic stock, and extensive costume and props libraries. A strong commitment to participate in prospective student recruitment, academic advising, and community outreach is essential.

Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Theatre or MA with five or more years of professional theatre design experience.
  • Previous teaching experience and prospective student recruitment experience preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty, staff, directors and designers.
  • Ability to maintain a strong, positive, professional approach to theatre training.
