The University of Connecticut (UConn) is pleased to invite applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the Department of Physics in Theoretical Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Physics at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in August 2021. An appointment at the Associate Professor level may be considered for an exceptional candidate. We are particularly interested in quantum dynamics and ultrafast processes in AMO science. The department currently has three funded groups working in experimental ultrafast laser and FEL interactions with atoms and molecule, so the ability to collaborate with experimentalists is a high priority. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to build a strong research program in Theoretical AMO Physics with an interest in collaborating with existing experimental groups.
The Physics Department has 34 tenure-track faculty members, 184 undergraduate majors and 84 graduate students, and has recognized groups actively engaged in research in AMO, condensed matter, nuclear and particle physics. Some areas of particular departmental strength include strong collaborations with the Institute of Materials Science at UConn, the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, as well as Brookhaven, Argonne, Lawrence Berkeley, SLAC, and Jefferson National Labs. The Department recently moved to a fully-renovated building, which includes state-of-the-art Studio Physics teaching labs.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research and scholarship through extramural funding, high quality publications, impact as measured through citations, and national recognition such as honorific awards. The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including Studio Physics, innovative courses and instruction methods, and mentoring of students in research, outreach, and professional development. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through research, teaching, and/or public engagement the commitment to, and support of, diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSA leadership role in active, ongoing research in Theoretical AMO Physics; at least two years' post-doctoral experience; strong teaching skills; and the ability to contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.APPOINTMENT TERMSThis is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2021. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Faculty may also be asked to teach at one of UConn’s regional campuses as part of their ordinary workload.
