The University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley is seeking applications for Lecturer I – Music Technology/Composition (3 year appointment – renewable annually based on favorable evaluations)

to join the School of Music in Fall 2021. Primary responsibility includes working with current technology and composition faculty on our newly created music technology and composition degrees. Candidate will also be assigned courses in the composition/theory area. Other expectations include participation in service activities. The successful candidate will be assigned the standard academic teaching load for a Lecturer and teach on both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.

Minimum Qualifications

A completed doctorate in Music from an accredited university by August 1, 2021. A record of successful teaching at the collegiate level.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Experience teaching music technology and composition related courses. A record of active creative activity/scholarship.

Preferred Qualifications

Emphasis on electronic composition, advanced knowledge in audio editing, recording techniques, sound design and composition for multimedia projects (e.g. film and/or video games), real-time computer music systems and current classroom technologies. Experience with diverse student populations is preferred. Preference is given to applicants who are willing to teach on both the Brownsville & Edinburg campuses and who are willing to develop online courses.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
