Medical Laboratory Technician - PRN

Medical Laboratory Technician - PRN Hourly Rate: $20.00

Position Purpose
Provides medical expertise to support the Hawks Center for Well-Being under the direct supervision of the HCWB On-Site Medical Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instructs patients in preparing for tests that require specific collection procedures. Answers patient questions regarding the tests.
  • Performs a variety of routine waived tests, including COVID, using standard techniques and equipment. Collects, prepares specimens, resolves specimen problems, and performs analytical tests. Labels and stores specimens.
  • Determines the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Prepares reagents and assists in the preparation of standard and control materials. Monitors levels of reagents and assists in maintaining supplies.
  • Records results of tests and maintains records. Provides test results, reporting deviations from the norm to supervisor or ordering physician.
  • Maintains equipment and investigates problems with equipment.
  • May assist in providing practical educational experiences for students enrolled in the Medical Assisting program and training of new employees. Organize and manage instructional activities while using appropriate learner-centered methods. This includes assistance with evaluation methods appropriate to stated course or program outcomes; evaluation of student learning in a fair manner; maintenance of accurate records of evaluation and course work including attendance; regularly seeking feedback on course delivery and student learning; revise/update course materials as directed by supervisor.
  • May monitor daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
  • Work cooperatively with others to accomplish the goals of the department and campus related to well-being and medical services; share expertise and materials with other campus community members; contribute to the efforts of other college enterprises and activities where skills are appropriate; work constructively to resolve individual and department concerns; actively participate in technology and department activities and meetings; follow departmental policies.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Follow all safety and federal guidelines including HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications - Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Associate degree from a Medical Laboratory Technician program, ASCP eligible. Will have one year from the date of employment to become ASCP certified.
  • Evidence of professional development in the field of concentration as demonstrated by
  • activity in professional associations, consultative practice; participation in seminars, workshops, and formal coursework, and individual reading and research.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong technology skills including usage of email, student information system, and learning management system.
  • Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills including flexibility in dealing with others.
  • Confidentiality.
  • Caring attitude toward students.
  • Knowledge of College resources available to students. Willingness to extend self to help students succeed.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure.
  • Openness to suggestions for improvement.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Behaves in accordance with Hocking College and Academic Affairs mission, goals, and values.
  • Positive attitude.
