Job Description Summary
The Maillard laboratory is seeking to hire a new laboratory Research Specialist A to complete its current research team. The laboratory has been launched progressively at the University of Pennsylvania since 01/2018 after moving from the University of Michigan. To best support the productivity of our team, we are planning to hire a laboratory Research Specialist A who can help with management of our mouse colony, including mouse breeding, weaning, ear tagging and genotyping. This is a growing task that is essential for our research program, especially critical now during research resurgence after COVID19 lockdown, and not supported adequately by part-time temporary employees. In addition, the new Research Specialist A will be asked to assist with the projects of our graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. In this regard, previous experience on processing animal tissues and staining samples for flow cytometry, in addition to cryosectioning and staining of tissues for immunofluorescence, would be a plus. We have designed the position to be split roughly 70:30 between tasks related to management of the mouse colony plus other routine laboratory tasks (under the supervision of lab manager Dr. Gomez Atria), and involvement in research projects related to the role of Notch signaling in mature T and B lymphocytes (under the supervision of Dr. Gomez Atria and other laboratory members). Dr. Maillard will provide overall supervision of the new technician.
CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING
Job Description
Plans and conducts basic experiments to meet research project objectives, with close supervision. Assists in performing laboratory experiments and clinical studies for product or material formulation and development. Daily management of laboratory tool, documentations and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and timely completion of project/program deliverables. Closely collaborates with Senior Research Specialists and Principal Investigator (PI) on experimental/clinical work set ups in accordance to established protocols.
Management of animal colony
Management of geno-typing
Maintaining compliance with IACUC regulations
Experimental work under supervision of other lab members
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree and 0-1 year of lab experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) are required. Prior laboratory experience, especially working with mouse models, is preferred. Previous experience with microscopy and image analysis is also preferred.
