Master’s degree in Historic Preservation, architectural history, urban planning, and/or commensurate work experience (4-6 years field survey experience preferred)

Position Summary:

This position serves as the Program Coordinator for Georgia’s “Findit” Historic Resource Survey Partnership Program between the University of Georgia-College of Environment and Design and the Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC), the Georgia State Historic Preservation Office (Historic Preservation Division – Dept. of Community Affairs), the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), public utilities, and Georgia communities. The Coordinator is the Primary Investigator for annual multi-year research and outreach grants sponsored by GTC (now in its 18th year) and GDOT (2-year mitigation project) as well as smaller environmental review, mitigation studies, and community surveys for Georgia municipalities and non-profits that contribute data to Georgia’s Archaeological, Natural and Historic Resources GIS database (GNAHRGIS). Additionally, the Findit program funds and provides skills-based professional training in architectural history and field survey for UGA College of Environment and Design (CED) students through 3-7 graduate assistantships per year. The Program Coordinator position (and all other student salaries and operational costs) is funded by and contingent upon sponsored project grants, which are reviewed/renewed annually. As a staff member of the UGA-CED Center for Community Design & Preservation, this position also contributes to other outreach and engagement opportunities promoted by CCDP, and serves as a colleague of the UGA College of Environment and Design, adding value through committee positions and collegial partnerships.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Master’s degree in Historic Preservation, architectural history, urban planning; and/or commensurate work experience preferred (4-6 years preferred).
Field survey, architectural history and cultural assessment experience (2-3 years preferred)
Project management, budget development experience (2-3 years preferred)
Personnel Management, training, or education experience; team-building skills
Proficiency/literacy in GIS, CAD, or similar mapping techniques; familiarity with resource databases (GNAHRGIS a plus)
Demonstrated research interest (especially emergent technologies and novel architectural typologies or related applied research); community engaged scholarship a plus
Competency in Adobe Suite, photography
Interest in community and partner engagement (collaboration with state, region, and local partners as well as university and CED colleagues) and program advancement
Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; visual presentation experience
Self-motivated, well-organized, personable, and a team player

Duties/Responsibilities:

Program Management and Promotion:
Primary Investigator for multi-year research and outreach grants sponsored by Georgia Transmission Corporation and Georgia Department of Transportation, as well as public service and outreach projects (environmental review, mitigation studies, community surveys) for municipalities and non-profits. Responsibilities include University project management, budget management, data entry into GNAHRGIS database, coordinating bi-annual meetings for the Findit Program Steering Committee, community engagement and promotion. Set annual goals and objectives towards the pursuit of cultural resource survey work in order to enhance and grow FindIt’s offerings for CED students and community partners. Serve as a contributing member of CCDP to support unit and college-wide strategies towards improved public service and outreach operations.

Management of student graduate assistants, employees and volunteers engaged in the implementation and administration of Findit program objectives. Train student employees in historic and cultural resource research, field survey methodology, GIS data entry, architectural identification of new and established styles and types, deed research, report production and presentation.

Develop and manage budgets and contracts for multiple concurrent and varied sponsored projects. Responsible for developing funding proposals, managing budgets, monitoring spending, and working with CED Grants Coordinator and UGA Sponsored Programs Administration.

Applied Research and Technology:
Conducts applied research on innovation in field survey technologies, such as remote methodologies, and architectural history priority research areas, such as mid-century contemporary residential and commercial styles and types. Identify applied research areas, expose students to ongoing innovation in technology and its role in historic preservation and planning, determine potential impacts to historic resources, adhere to system for ranking applied research projects, evaluate applied research projects, and pursue additional research contracts/grants.
