Summary: The Associate Director of Residence Life is an on-campus live-in position with room and board provided; collaborates with the Director regarding the strategic direction of the Residence Life program, trains and supervises Graduate Assistants; coordinates student volunteer opportunities and community engagement; responds to student needs and on-campus incidents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the Graduate Assistant program by providing the following, but not limited to, pre-school workshop training; serving as a mentor and teacher; developing leadership skills; conducting staff; meetings; coordinating spring selection process for the upcoming year; coordinating annual staff trip; completing annual evaluations.
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates the student affairs community engagement plan. Connects Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to the community by creating relationships and partnerships; serves as a liaison in creating and implementing out-of-class learning experiences for Rose-Hulman students and staff; encourages and coordinates student, faculty, and staff volunteerism and service to the Wabash Valley; advances student learning, leadership, and citizenship to prepare students for lives of active community engagement.
  • Collaborates with the Director regarding the strategic direction of the Residence Life program and leads implementation of this direction through graduate assistant staff.
  • Participates in on-campus duty coverage requiring response to emergency and crisis situations during the day and after hours; is the primary decision maker when responding to concerns and emergency incidents in the residence halls. Creates and carries out communication to students, parents, and institute stakeholders during and following any emergencies.
  • Serves on the Title IX Equity Resolution Panel.
  • Assists in the fall on-campus housing assignments and makes changes to housing assignments throughout the year, as necessary.
  • Directs the Student Affairs component of summer programs. Responsible for hiring and training of the Operation Catapult student team.
  • Serves on the BIT/Rose Cares team and assists with identifying and appropriately checking-in with students of concern.
  • Attends professional development opportunities such as the following, but not limited to, GLACUHO, GLACURH, & NAFSA conferences.
  • Assists the Office of Student Activities to plan and implement other student focused activities.
  • Co-Advisor for Women’s Greek Life.
  • Serves as Sophomore Class Advisor and assists the Sophomore Class President in overseeing the class budget and programming efforts.
  • Serves as Co-Advisor for the Student Government Association.
  • Teaches one section of RHIT100 class during fall quarter.
  • Coordinates residence life renovation projects with Associate Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Serves on Institute committees as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Associate Director directly supervises paraprofessional staff in the residence halls (Graduate Assistants) and is responsible for their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining paraprofessional staff; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Master's degree in student affairs and higher education, student affairs administration, or related field required. Five to seven years related experience and/or training strongly desired. Combination of professional student affairs experience, supervisory experience, live-in residence life engagement, and managerial experience allowed. At least three years in a professional position within student affairs required.
