East Regional Access Coach for TN SPDG Initiatives (Telecommute)

The Regional ACCESS Coaches will work with the Office of Special Populations at the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) and will be an integral part of the department’s implementation of training and support for students with disabilities. A person in this position has knowledge of instruction and intervention for students ages 3-22 in Tennessee, as well as having a clear understanding of the development of Instructionally Appropriate Individual Education Programs (IAIEPs). This position will support selected districts with implementation of training principles through training, coaching, and direct observation. The goal for the Regional ACCESS coaches is to improve access to instructional practices and intensive intervention, supports, and services with the focus on improving outcomes for students with disabilities.

Regional ACCESS coaches will provide support for selected SPDG 3.0 districts TN (Hancock, Hawkins, Washington, and Union Counties) to provide support for teachers and facilitators being trained on content, for students ages 3-22, including access to instruction in a pandemic.

ACCESS Regional Coach Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide observation, coaching, and feedback, virtually and in-person, on facilitator and educator implementation of training principles related to access to high quality core instruction and intensive intervention. Provide decision-making for the development and implementation of Instructionally Appropriate Individual Education Programs (IAIEPs).
• Use data to support educators in planning and implementing project activities.
• Collaborate closely with the Office of Special Populations at TDOE on content.
• Collaborate with TDOE regional special education specialists to ensure aligned and coordinated support to districts, schools, and educators.
• Observe all redelivered trainings in the region, virtually and/or in-person.
• Redeliver training content to schools/educators as required, virtually and/or in-person.

In addition, successful candidates will have:
• Belief that all children can learn and that expectations must remain high for all students.
• The ability to engage project partners (educators, administrators, support personnel, other TDOE personnel) to effectively to improve outcomes for students, including strong written and verbal skills.
• Previous professional experience in a role requiring training and/or consultation with adult individuals or agencies.
• A willingness to proactively facilitate trainings and coaching conversations, a strong work ethic, and resilient problem solving skills.
• The ability to redeliver impactful training to educators and administrators.
• Understanding and knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), including RTI2, to address the academic and non-academic needs of students.
• Self-reflective skills and will actively engage in coaching training.
• Ability and willingness to attend all trainings and learn/utilize new technology tools.
• Teacher certification and special education certification preferred.

Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required (preferred in Education).
Master’s degree in Special Education preferred.
Teaching Certification required (Special Education certification referred).

Required level/type of experience:
5 years previous professional experience in a role requiring training and/or consultation with individuals or agencies.
Preferred level/type of experience:
At least 5 years of experience in special education setting.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Ability to write IEPs, The ability to redeliver impactful training to educators and administrators, Understanding and knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), including RTI2, to address the academic and non-academic needs of students, The ability to engage project partners (educators, administrators, support personnel, other TDOE personnel) to effectively to improve outcomes for students, including strong written and verbal skills, Self-reflective skills and actively engage in coaching training.
Competencies/Qualifications:
The ability to speak in front of large groups and classrooms of students.
Skilled in teaching with experience at the particular level they're coaching.
Knowledge about reading processes, assessment, and instruction.
Knowledgeable in communications with the ability to provide constructive feedback.
Skilled in coaching educators and aiding in professional development.
Ability to model lessons and teaching techniques in front of other educators.
