Position Description:
Under the direction of the MSO and the Department Chair, advise graduate students in the Department of Communication on major/degree requirements and on academic/career goal setting. Counsel all new and continuing students on information regarding registration, enrollment, housing and career opportunities. Advise graduate students on choices of classes and required/elective courses. Counsel students who are having scholastic difficulty. Act as a liaison for all graduate program inquirers and applicants. Facilitate admissions process for graduate program in Communication. Serve as a resource to the faculty and MSO, providing student related statistics and reports as requested, advising on policies and regulations and making program recommendations.
Incumbent is responsible for hiring teaching assistants (approximately 40) and readers (approximately 35) for the Department of Communication as well as visiting scholars and postdocs. SAO II provides support with course scheduling and serves as a backup for an undergraduate advisor. Incumbent provides support for departmental events, creates purchase orders, and prepares reimbursements. Plans, coordinates and organizes prospective student campus visits, new student orientation and Open House, Commencement, and award ceremonies. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
