Position Purpose

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Dental Hygiene Program Manager, the Adjunct, Supervising Dentist performs the following functions:

• Reviews health histories
• Orders radiographs
• Approves sealants
• Performs cursory exams
• Reviews dental chartings for decay and/or defective issues on each clinical patient
• Approves and interpret Dental X-Rays
• Follows OSHA and workplace safety guidelines
• Identifies referrals for patients
• Prescribes/dispenses medications as needed
• Is available to answer questions regarding the health history, pathology, and clinical treatment
• Assists in the management of medical emergencies
• Serves as a resource to questions that faculty/students may have regarding patient care
• Is present if needed for ADEX Board Examinations, CODA site visits
• Provides instruction and evaluation in the clinical setting
• Assists in the coordination of all dental clinic activities
• Provides state-mandated supervision for applicable dental procedures
• May administer local anesthesia and work with patients
• Interacts with students in a teaching environment
• Participates in faculty/staff meetings/calibration meetings
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean, Program Manager, and/or department chair

• Complies with CODA accreditation standards
• Exhibits professional behavior while assisting with the needs of students, faculty, staff, visitors and co-workers

• Participates in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned
• Perform additional duties or job functions that are required and deemed necessary by supervisory personnel
• Maintains student and patient confidentiality

Qualifications - Education, Experience, and Skills

• Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree is required
• Unencumbered dental license in the State of Ohio is required
• Current Health Care Provider, CPR training is required
• Clinical teaching experience in a dental hygiene/ dental program preferred
• Experience as a supervising dentist in a teaching environment preferred
