Job Summary
Research Engineer I
Cardiovascular Fluid Mechanics Laboratory
Department of Biomedical Engineering
JOB PURPOSE:
Perform a variety of technical activities required for conducting tests and experiments in a school or research laboratory within the Institute. Includes data collection and analyses, experiment preparation and equipment setup and operation.
IMPACT & INFLUENCE:
This position will interact with academic and research faculty and co-workers. It is not an advisory or supervisory position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Gather, compile and summarize data in conjunction with assigned scientific tests, experiments, etc.
- Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related records.
- Use CAD Software (SolidWorks) to design prototypes in support of research
- Construct prototypes and devices using shop machinery (CNC, Mill, Lathe, 3D printer, Laser Cutter, etc.)
- Prepare engineering drawings of designs
- Participate as directed in experiment design and preparation
- Participate as directed in preparation of presentations and manuscripts
- Maintain laboratory equipment. Support measurement & automation user interfaces (LabVIEW)
- Design and build customized test fixtures
- Research material databases to select appropriate materials for specific engineering applications
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Degrees required for this job: Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
Degrees preferred: Biomedical Engineering
Years of experience required for this job: One to two years job related experience
This job requires working knowledge of research lab equipment and support processes and practices including skills in data organization, statistical analysis and use of statistical and scientific computer applications.
Proficiency designing, planning, and prototyping devices and components is required
Proficiency with Python, MATLAB w/ Simulink, and SolidWorks and shop experience using 3D printer & laser cutters is preferred.
