Trinity, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, invites applications for an associate director of instructional technology who will provide direct service to students and faculty as well as maintain and support use of Moodle, Trinity’s learning management system. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of best practices in on-line instructional design and technical expertise in implementing Moodle as a campus-wide learning platform. This position can be assumed remotely.

Reporting to the Director of Instructional Technology and working closely with Trinity’s Technology Services team, the Associate Director will support Trinity’s Moodle Help Desk, assist with LMS institutional compliance and reporting features, help with Moodle implementation and troubleshooting, assist with orientation and training for students, faculty, and staff in synchronous and asynchronous formats, and support annual and ad-hoc system upgrades. The associate director will also have primary responsibility for the on-line instructional design and pedagogies that are the hallmarks of a Trinity education.

Specifically, the Associate Director will be responsible to:

  • Support the Director of Instructional Technology with Moodle Help Desk tickets and maintenance and implementation of Moodle;
  • Lead all instructional design functions with the faculty as subject matter experts;
  • Lead the implementation of a set of assessment tools and rubrics for online learning;
  • Develop and oversee the use of course templates and other instructional technology artifacts, including those developed in TechSmith Camtasia and Adobe Captivate;
  • Offer pedagogical training for teaching online;
  • Meet one-on-one with the faculty members and/or program chairs to ensure effective development and transition of all syllabi to online formats;
  • Cultivate faculty peer mentors, and offer development sessions for all faculty on instructional design with the mentor partners;
  • Work with program chairs, deans, and the associate provost to manage advanced compliance requirements such as reporting for accreditation purposes;
  • Support the Director with troubleshooting and other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A master’s degree in educational technology or related field (preferred); qualified candidates with a bachelor’s degree in field and appropriate direct experience may apply;
  • At least three years collegiate-level experience with instructional design and Moodle implementation (or similar experience);
  • Knowledge of TechSmith Camtasia and Adobe Captivate;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent and responsive service to Moodle users;
  • Experience with implementing and using research, evaluation, and assessment tools that inform successful programs, especially at a student-centric institution;
  • Professional and effective interpersonal and problem solving skills;
  • Effective organization and verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to engage and work effectively in a remote environment;
  • Additionally, he or she will be a motivated self-starter eager for the challenge of working at a growing, mission-based institution.
