Job Details
Provides instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE) to eligible students. Supports and facilitates student transitions to post-secondary education and careers. Should be able to teach English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA) if needed. Works collaboratively with community agencies and College to support Adult Education for college and career readiness. This is a grant-funded part-time position, 18 hours per week, non-benefit eligible position. The position is based upon the terms, conditions and funding of the grant.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesArizona Adult Education Services Requirements
- Provides instruction based on the Arizona Adult Education Content Standards to prepare participants to improve basic skills, successfully complete a HSE diploma, and/or integrated skills program and transition to career pathways and or post-secondary education
- Provides effective instruction to participants based on the Arizona Adult Education ABE Teacher Standards in English Language Arts and/or Mathematics
- Answers calls from potential students inquiring about the program and directs them to the proper site or class.
- Conducts intake process for new students including State intake form, prop 300 paperwork and fee intake form. Helps students sign up for appropriate orientation session where offered.
- Helps students to set and reexamine goals. Encourages students to identify what they have learned, how it supports their college and career readiness and any gaps that need to be addressed.
- Provides direct instruction to students in one-on-one tutoring and small group settings for ABE, ASE and ELAA that is clearly aligned to AZ Adult Ed CCR standards.
- Assesses students’ abilities through state approved tests, including the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), CLAS-E and GED official practice tests. Refers students who may have learning difficulties and/or learning disabilities.
- Uses intake forms and goals and assessment records to organize student information for monthly database entry. Checks information regularly for accuracy. Assures accuracy of attendance information and forwards to support staff for data entry monthly.
- Attends regular program instructor meetings, professional development workshops and conferences.
- Participates in monthly partner meetings on a rotating basis to become familiar with partner operations.
- Uses instructional technology and software in the classroom as well as for professional development.
- Actively supports and contributes to a positive and professional workplace environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skill in providing instruction in ABE, ASE, and ELAA. Knowledge of Adult Education practices; and federal, state and local laws governing the Adult Education Services. Ability to work with people and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Familiarity with using basic computer word processing and Internet techniques as an adjunct to teacher fronted classes.
State Certification in adult education (within 60 days of hire). Bachelor’s degree and 2 year of related professional experience; or any combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Arizona State Department of Education and the College Human Resources department.
Preferred
Master's degree in Education. Experience in educational settings. Experience with instructional technology. Experience in skills and disability assessment.
