Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

The Public Service Professional will provide oversight and coordination of a program funded by the National Science Foundation, termed the ‘Emerge’ program. The Emerge program in conducted in coordination with a scientific society, the Society for Freshwater Science. The Public Service Professional will be the project coordinator of this program that provides experiences for underrepresented scholars in attending workshops, scientific meetings, and in online learning. The coordinator will manage the project budget, maintain all project records, oversee travel and meeting logistics for participants and activity leaders, facilitate and schedule regular communication between the project steering committee, the external advisory board, the emerge scholars selection committee, the external evaluator and other key collaborators. The project coordinator will also lead communication efforts, including creating and maintaining a website, developing communication materials and distributing information through multiple channels, including social media.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Computer software competencies: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), data management.
Experience studying or working in the field of freshwater science, within an academic, government, or private sector setting.
Ability to learn and follow purchasing and reimbursement protocols.
Ability to learn National Science Foundation budget protocols.
Ability to develop and submit annual reports.
Knowledge of template-based (e.g., WordPress) website development and management.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills with people and stakeholders from diverse geographies and cultures.
Demonstrated written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple program activities (including travel).
Event planning skills
Ability to travel up to four weeks per year.
Email marketing competency (e.g. MailChimp)
