DescriptionPost-Doctoral Research Associate
Regular Full-time
A post-doctoral position is available in the Das Lab at UT Knoxville for a 5-year NIH-NIGMS R01 funded project. Our lab is interested in understanding cell cycle dependent regulation of cell polarity using fission yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe as a model system. Cell shape establishment and maintenance is critical to cell function and survival. Our research indicates that in fission yeast the pattern of cell growth and polarity responds to different cell cycle stages. This project will investigate how cells respond to different cell cycle stages to establish their pattern of growth. More details about our research and recent publications are available at our website For our research we use yeast genetics, live-cell imaging, protein dynamics, quantitative microscopy and mathematical modeling approaches. Our lab is well equipped with a dedicated 2-D array confocal microscope. In addition, the microscopy core at the university has a Spinning disc microscope, Leica SP8 confocal microscope, transmission electron microscope and a TIRF microscope.
Job Functions:

The following are examples of typical duties, but other duties may also be assigned:

•Presentation of project results at meetings and seminars.
•Publication of high quality manuscripts.
•May be responsible for training staff, graduate assistants, or student employees.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
•A PhD degree in Bioscience or related field is required.
•Candidates interested in investigating fundamental processes in biology at the cellular and molecular level with experience in yeast genetics and/or cell polarity will be considered.
•Familiarity with live-cell microscopy will be a plus but not essential.
