Post-Doctoral Research Associate Position in Polymer Chemistry

A post-doctoral research associate position in the area of surface polymer brushes is available in the Department of Chemistry at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. We are looking for candidates with a strong background in organic and polymer synthesis and characterization. Prior research experience with surface-initiated polymerization and surface characterization techniques (atomic force microscopy, ellipsometry, surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, etc.) is highly desired. Comprehensive knowledge of polymer chemistry is needed for carrying out the research project. A proven track record of research excellence in polymer chemistry is required, as demonstrated by quality publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. This position is initially for one year and may be extended depending on the availability of funds, research performance, and mutual interest.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Synthesize monomers and surface-immobilizable initiators for making polymer brushes on solid substrates
•Prepare and characterize polymer brushes on solid substrates
•Investigate the structure and property of polymer brushes
•Write reports on a regular basis and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
•Ensure compliance with safety requirements of the University of Tennessee Knoxville
•Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in laboratory when needed



QualificationsQualifications:
Minimum Requirements: 
A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering. The incumbent should have a proven track record of research excellence in polymer chemistry. Strong abilities and expertise in organic and polymer synthesis are required, and prior research experience with surface-initiated polymerization and surface characterization techniques is highly desired. In addition, the incumbent should have good communication and presentation skills.
