Applications are currently being solicited for apost-doctoral research associate in the area of mathematical and computationalmodeling of social systems in the Fefferman Lab at the University of Tennesseeat Knoxville.

The work will involve modeling, focusing initially on agent-basedsimulations of social and behavioral processes in networks and simplicial sets.An ideal candidate would have some experience in computational simulation and networktheory, or in low-dimensional topology, with extensive experience in computer programmingin Matlab or C (or perhaps Python, depending on experience). A candidate shouldbe comfortable with a variety of modeling techniques and willing to learn newareas of modeling application in collaboration with interdisciplinary researchteams.

The researcher will be expected to help formulate models, codesimulations, analyze results, take a primary role in preparing manuscripts forpublication, contribute to a collaborative research group environment, andparticipate in preparation of new grant proposals.

QualificationsRequirements:

-         A Ph.D. in some pertinent field. Such fields couldinclude, but are not limited to applied mathematics, biology, physics, engineering, computer science, sociology, psychology, or behavior.

-         Some research experience in applied mathematical/computationalmodeling

-         In addition to the necessary expertise in Network Theoryand Agent Based Modeling, familiarity with at least one of the followingmathematical modeling techniques would be preferred: ODEs, PDEs, SDEs, GameTheory, Cellular Automata, Decision Theory, or Data Analytics

-         The ability to write clearly and scientifically (e.g.to produce drafts of papers for publication in scientific journals andweb-based public outreach without too much oversight); evidence of successfulprior publication is a plus

-         Ability to work/communicate with a multidisciplinaryteam

-         Fluency in a mathematical programming environment(preferably Matlab, but Mathematica, C, Python, or equivalent are alsoacceptable)

The lab is affiliated with the Department of Ecology andEvolutionary Biology, the Department of Mathematics, and NIMBioS and thecandidate will be welcome to participate in any/all of these communities.

This is a full-time, one year position, with thepotential for renewal if things work out well. Ideal start date: February 1st,2021. To apply send email to Nina H.
