POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

One Stop Student Services at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville,(UT) invites applicants and nominations for the position of the FinancialWellness Coach within the Center for Financial Wellness. UT is seekingcandidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to thediversity and intercultural goals of the University.

The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises morethan 150 full-time staff who serve our students through the followingdepartments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment,Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships,University Registrar, EM Communications, and the Veterans Resource Center.

 

Functions and Responsibilities:

This position is part of thecentralized team within One Stop Student Services that provides astudent-focused approach to quality service in order to provide exceptional,seamless service experience that supports student success and institutionalgoals of recruitment, retention and graduation. The Financial Wellness Coach will provide students with the knowledgeand skills to effectively manage their finances, make informed financialdecisions and achieve financial independence. This position will report to theCoordinator of Financial Wellness and Education and assist the Coordinator withdeveloping and implementing a financial wellness curriculum. This position isresponsible for assisting with creating material, outreach and education tohelp engage the student population and promote financial wellness on campus.Finally, the position is cross-trained to provide front-line support tostudents, parents/families, and other campus community members in the areas ofUndergraduate Admissions, University Registrar, Financial Aid and Scholarships,and the Bursar. The position will be able to answer questions of generalbreadth and depth related to the offices as well as facilitate transactions.This position will also be responsible for attending certain University events,programs, and functions on and off campus as well as work weekends/evenings asrequired.

 

In addition the Financial WellnessCoach will provide leadership in the Center for Financial Wellness and One Stopby:

·        providing one-on-one and groupfinancial coaching for participants in the Center for Financial Wellness

·        assisting students with topics aroundgoal setting, budgeting, spending, saving, and loan repayment

·        conducting financial educationclasses and workshops – overseeing participant performance at in-person classesor online classes and introducing financial wellness modules to targetedorganizations and student groups

·        collecting and verifying all requireddata from participants throughout the program and assisting the Coordinator inprogram reports and preparation

·        identifying and referringparticipants to other resources and services needed to achieve their financialgoals.

·        attending related training, meetings,conferences, and professional development programs

·        assisting with financial wellnessrelated programs and other duties as assigned

·        and at times, this position willserve as first level of student contact where personal interaction and problemsolution begins, providing general information and inquiries, acting as atriage for complex enrollment issues, solving end to end issues, and elevatingcomplex issues to the appropriate specialists in the office that support OneStop.



QualificationsRequired Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree. One or more yearsof experience training or teaching others (students, staff, etc.). Two or moreyears of experience in customer service related field.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience working with individualsfrom diverse economic backgrounds in one or more of the following areas:financial goal setting, budgeting, debt repayment, utilization of qualityfinancial services, or asset development. Preferred background in financialcoaching, banking, asset development and/or a related economic field. Experiencein higher education, specifically areas of enrollment, admissions, financialaid, registrar and bursar/student accounts.

• Ability to be detail-oriented witha willingness to learn new skill and techniques to promote quality, efficiencyand successful student outcomes.

• Ability to identify internalweaknesses, identify solutions and to adapt coaching methods and tools tocreate more effective program and student outcomes.

• Ability to sense when students areoverwhelmed and to break major objectives in manageable steps.

• Have the knowledge toengage/motivate/encourage student and help them resolve financial challengesand accomplish goals.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Creative, practical and strategicproblem solving skills.

• Knowledge of best practices in theemerging field of financial literacy/financial wellness.
