Position Description:

Full-Time Lecturer Position at Rice University’s Center for Languages & Intercultural Communication located in Houston, TX. Rice University’s Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication (CLIC) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Japanese. This appointment will begin July 1, 2021. Upon successful performance review, the appointee can be offered additional contracts.

Responsibilities include: develop a coherently articulated Japanese program of instruction cross competence levels to undergraduate students; implement an innovative research-based curriculum; teach Japanese classes to undergraduate students through the design, preparation, evaluation, and implementation of syllabi, daily lesson plans, exams and other assessment instruments; participate in development of administrative assessment tools; participate in professional development; and participate in CLIC governance (e.g. faculty meetings).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D in Second Language Education or related field and one year of experience teaching at U.S. university level. Must have completed a university-level course, research project, internship, thesis, or dissertation or have one year of experience in second language pedagogy. Must have developed at least one successful innovative, dynamic, second language curricula. Must have native or near-native ability to read, write and speak Japanese and pass Japanese language test during interview process. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
