Overview

Image Analyst/Image Annotator

Image analysts are responsible for reconstructing 3D models for neurons and generating data to train artificial intelligence algorithms. The analyst will be involved with the annotation of brain images from serial electron microscopy. The assistant will use custom computer software to assemble 3D reconstructions of neurons from fragments and then use Photoshop-style computer software to color interiors of neural cross sections in images, and color locations of synapses. Full-time image analyst are also responsible for beta-testing lab software, documenting changing lab procedures, and mentoring new image analysts.

A strong work experience in the field is required for this full-time position.

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension contingent upon successful performance and continued funding.



Responsibilities

  • Reconstruct 3D models of neurons from fragments with custom lab software.
  • Generate data to train artificial intelligence algorithms, by annotating serial electron microscopy images with lab software
  • Beta-test lab software: report bugs, define needed features, specify workflow improvements
  • Document lab procedures, to streamline and standardize image analysis across the team
  • Mentor new image analysts: work through difficult reconstructions and annotations together


Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good visuospatial skills and ease with point-and-click computer interface similar to image editing and computer games.
  • Excellent visuospatial skills for 3D gameplay.
  • Good oral & written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Essential Qualifications

  • Prior work experience with annotation of brain images from serial electron microscopy.
