Position Summary:

The Rice 360° Institute for Global Health offers innovative research & education programs to design and implement new technologies to solve real global health challenges. The Neonatal Essential Solutions and Technologies (NEST360°) program led by Rice 360° is an eight-year initiative to enable African hospitals to provide comprehensive newborn care and to establish a pipeline of local innovators, technicians and medical staff, in partnership with an international group of engineers, physicians, health experts and entrepreneurs from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Sub-Sahara Africa. The first phase of the project will focus on Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya and Nigeria.

Rice 360° is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of NEST database administrator. The database administrator, under the supervision of the Rice 360° Executive Director and the faculty Co-Directors, Dr. Rebecca Richards-Kortum and Dr. Maria Oden, will design, develop and manage a large, complex database for NEST360° to track, improve and report on program work-flow and impact. The NEST360° database administrator will create and manage REDCap databases and conduct regular checks on newly acquired data. The NEST360° database administrator will also develop and maintain internal data publications, compile and analyze data required for development and production of specialty reports, and respond to general data requests from internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate would be experienced in administering, maintaining and reporting on a robust REDCap database associated with long-term multi-institution, multi-country clinical research projects, including adherence to HIPAA compliance for data storage and sharing.

Experience Preferred:

- Maintenance of HIPAA compliant system for data storage and sharing, preferably using REDCap
- Presentation of a wide-range of data visually for diverse audiences
- Compilation and management of data sourced from multiple institutions
- Experience registering studies with clinicaltrials.gov

License/Certification Required:

None

Skills Required:

- Basic technical knowledge of databases
- Familiarity of middleware
- Knowledge of web server software and security
- Knowledge of Windows server operating systems

Skills Preferred:

- Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Access and Excel), SPSS, REDCap, and Tableau
- Demonstrated ability with SQL data warehousing and business intelligence
- Demonstrated ability with enterprise SQL DBA, techniques and tools
- Knowledgeable in predictive analysis concepts / practices
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills

Physical Demands:

Essential Functions:

- Assists in implementing batch shell scripts in a basic language
- Works with SAN administrators in the design of DB related Storage Area Networks (SANs) with Storage Administration
- Provides daily support for customer needs and service issues to maintain database & middleware infrastructure functionality, including 24×7 on call support to ensure application functionality and to minimize disruptions
- Assists application developers in troubleshooting issues that involve the applications interaction with middleware software and/or database management systems
- Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions or Information:

- Designs formats and compiles data required for development and production of specialty reports to address research topics and projects
- Conducts data quality checks to identify potential data entry errors
- Coordinates with IRB administrator to ensure database projects are compliant with IRB approved protocols
- Assists with registration of clinical studies on clinicaltrials.gov
- Effectively communicates research findings and other information in written and verbal formats as well as graphic or tabular displays
- Identifies, secures, confirms and compiles data and completes survey submission requests from various external entities
- Organizes and leads special projects
- Develops and maintains assigned internal data publications
- Uses statistical software to produce aggregate data for analysis and dissemination
- Prepares and responds to internal ad-hoc requests
- Creates numeric and graphic displays for succinct and meaningful consumption
- Prepares regular status reports on projects or topics of interest
- Interprets data, identifies relevant trends and recommends actions
- Serves as Rice 360° primary contact for matters relating to its NEST360° data coordination with external partners
