DescriptionThe Executive Director of Strategic Business Operations andPlanning manages a wide range of high level administrative and internalbusiness operations, and external business functions for the Office of VicePresident for Research. The Executive Director engages in strategic planningand analysis, and serves as point of contact for fiscal, human resourcesadministrative, and operational matters. The incumbent will maintain regularcontact with internal and external parties, with the purpose of sharinginformation and/or collaborating on programs or projects. The Executive Directorwill identify administrative and operational gaps and institute strategies forincreased efficiency across all divisions in the office. Performs other relatedduties as assigned.

 

The essential functions include; Directs, coordinates, and servesas the key liaison for assigned strategic administrative and operationalprojects and initiatives, serves In a lead role for critical planning, decision-making, implementation and communication of Research's strategies, programs,activities, and processes, communicates regularly and leads meetings withsenior staff on departmental matters of significance on behalf of the VicePresident for Research, identifies and troubleshoots administrative andoperational Issues working in collaboration with relevant parties to facilitateefficient and timely resolutions, monitors Initiatives established by the VicePresident for Research to ensure that they are completed successfully and ontime, researches and implements solutions for administrative and operationalissues, works with the pre award division to liaise with government agencies,such as the PA Department of Health, etc. Serves as the Vice President'srepresentative for PA Cancer Alliance, develops and/or sustains relationshipswith government officials on behalf of the Vice President, provides a highlevel of support to the Vice President for Research, Including internalmessaging and external communications with government agencies, serves as amember of the Vice President for Research leadership team and assist withdeveloping long term strategies for the department, collaborates with variousdepartments within Office of Research and across the university to executeplans, directs the creation and implementation of annual budget. Supervises theAssistant Director of Finance to ensure that expenditures within the portfolioare within the budget Conducts analyses and projections. Provides budgetInformation to the Vice President for meetings with Internal and externalstakeholders, responsible for human resources functions, including employeerelations, recruitment and work sponsorship/immigration processes. Serves oninterview committees and provides Input on the hiring process. Works withdivision directors to Identify training opportunities for staff, serves as a liaisonbetween Office of Research and Temple board members, and departments within theuniversity, provides strategic support to the grant programs affiliated withthe Office Research Administration, assists with capital projects, such asspace renovations, to ensure timely completion of such projects. Collaborateswith internal stakeholders and external vendors on projects, develops and/ordrafts talking points for the Vice President for Research in preparation forkey constituent meetings, participates in both short and long term strategicplanning for the portfolio. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and at least seven years of related experience in administration, operationsmanagement, and/or project management. An equivalent combination of education andexperience may be considered.

*Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial data.

*Strong problem solving, critical thinking and planning skills

*Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, includingproof-reading and editing skills

*Ability to maintain discretion when dealing with confidentialinformation and sensitive personnel matters.

*Demonstrated computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft OfficeSuite

*Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability tocollaborate effectively with a diverse constituent population.

*Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work in a fast-pacedenvironment and juggle multiple priorities

*Directly supervises administrative and professional employees.

*Carries out responsibilities in accordance with universitypolicies and applicable laws.

*Strong organization, planning and analytical skills.

*Must be able to communicate effectively, use discretion and solidjudgement.

*Ability to manage projects, working knowledge of all applicablecomputer software, and management skills (including planning, negotiation, andcommunication skills).

 

Preferred:

*Master’s degree
