Dental Assistant II: Sedation

DescriptionThe Dental Assistant II will provide chair side and surgical assistance to faculty in the treatment of dental patients within the Sedation Center in the Kornberg School of Dentistry. Primary responsibilities will be providing assistance to faculty from both the Sedation Center and from other departments within the school during oral surgeries or other procedures primarily while the patient is under sedation as well as during patient recovery. This will include assisting in evaluation and screening of patients for dental concerns as well as sedation assessments, taking of radiographs, escorting patients to other areas for evaluation, taking patient vital signs and recording, expose and upload x-rays in Axium, and dental charting. In addition, the Dental Assistant II will coordinate scheduling of patient appointments; sterilize and maintain equipment and instruments; run appropriate tests to monitor their function; maintain logs for equipment maintenance and safety required by the University, School, and Department for Infection Control; maintain and disinfect operatories between and after patient visits; place patient records in their appropriate locations; monitor and order supplies; and pour and trim dental impressions.  The Dental Assistant II may also be reassigned to any other clinic within the school if needed due to patient load, scheduling issues etc.  Perform other duties as assigned. 



At least six months experience as a Dental Assistant. Dental Assisting training and certificate from an accredited school. Dental Radiology Certification from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. CPR Certification. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Preferred: Previous experience working with sedated patients. 



*Ability to obtain ACT 33 Child Abuse Clearances.

*Must be willing to learn new information through seminars and in-service sessions to better assists doctors in patient care.

*Demonstrated ability to provide chair-side assistance that requires manual dexterity.

*Must have the ability to assist with moving or lifting patients who are under sedation.

*Ability to utilize dental instruments, sterilizer, operatory equipment, infection control equipment and dental x-ray equipment.

*Demonstrated good communication and interpersonal skills with faculty, students, community members and the ability to communicate to a diverse population.

*Demonstrated knowledge of dental terminology, procedures and diagnosis.

*Demonstrated ability to operate all standard dental instruments.

*Demonstrated ability to prioritize projects and tasks and to respond to multiple requests.

*Demonstrated ability to work with potential pathogens during dental assisting and sterilization procedures.


This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.
