The director of parent & family programs serves as the primary contact for parents of undergraduate students at the University of South Carolina. The director is responsible for planning, implementing and assessing events and communications-related programs and services for parents and families, which provide them with resources to support their students’ growth and success at Carolina. Focusing on customer service, the director assists parents and families with questions and concerns and promotes the office as the central resource for families of undergraduate students. This individual is an expert in all things related to content and channel optimization, brand consistency, audience segmentation, analytics and meaningful measurement.
Primary duties include:
•Coordinate all forms of communication with parents of undergraduate students, including writing and editing print and web publications, social media posts and mobile app content.
•Serve as a member of the University Emergency management team and manage family communication efforts during emergency situations
•Plan and execute the annual Family Weekend and support other special events with significant parent/family attendance
•Manage a 1-800 Parents Assistance Line and parent family account to assist parents with questions and concerns.
•Oversee the efforts of Parents Advisory Council and the Parents Annual Fund including recruiting new members, soliciting funding requests, regular communication and event planning.
Masters degree in Student Services or related field and 3 years related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience. This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement / hazardous weather and other emergencies. In addition, this position requires a variable work schedule. This position will also assist with emergency communication and be expected to participate in various professional development activities as appropriate.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including parents, faculty, staff, students, university administration and donors. Must be extremely detail-oriented. Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects at one time in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Social media management and experience using tools such as Constant Contact/Mailchimp, Adobe InDesign, Canva and Microsoft Office preferred. Must maintain awareness of current trends relating to the needs of parents/families of undergraduate students. Must be a self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team. Customer service focused. Excellent problem-solving skills. The ability to maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations.
