The University of Kentucky (UK) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the J. David Rosenberg College of Law. The Rosenberg College of Law strives to be an outstanding public law school. In education, the College prepares graduates to be responsible members and leaders of the legal profession, Commonwealth, and Nation who are dedicated to the highest standards of ethics, excellence, and professionalism. In scholarship, the College engages in robust exploration and dissemination of ideas examining the law, legal institutions, and the role of law in society at the state, national and international levels. In engagement and outreach, the College serves the community and the profession by enhancing public understanding of law, engaging in law reform, delivering continuing legal education, and providing legal services to the indigent. The College’s education and research mission are enhanced by the Law Library, which serves the legal research needs of faculty and students, as well as alumni, members of the Kentucky bar, and the general public.
The faculty and staff of the College serve just under 400 students in pursuit of Juris Doctor degrees.
The Dean of the Rosenberg College of Law is the chief academic and administrative officer as well as the spokesperson for the College. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean provides strong leadership and strategic direction for the College.
The Dean’s primary responsibilities include the following:
•Provide leadership and support for innovative teaching and research at the College, ensuring alignment with the current needs of the legal profession and the requirements of accreditation.
•Lead the College in cultivating a variety of offerings in its legal education program, scholarly endeavors, and community engagement.
•Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of faculty, staff, and students, with an intentional focus on diversity, equality, and fairness.
•Provide vision and strategic decision-making to engage the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other supporters to realize the College’s goals.
•Serve as an advocate for the College.
•Administer the College’s budget amidst a challenging fiscal environment.
•Engage with donors and partners to secure philanthropic support for the College’s mission.

•Demonstrated experience in and a detailed understanding of legal education.
•Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including record of cooperative, and transparent communication and relationship-building with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the community.
•Development and fundraising skills, in order to lead the College in reaching its philanthropic goals, including “Kentucky Can: The 21st Century Campaign” goals.
•Strong advocacy to secure resources necessary for the improvement of the College.
•Knowledge of budget management in an academic environment.
•Experience in leading/managing diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students. Ability to build and empower a strong team of professionals.
Experience in budgetary and operational management.
Experience in developing methods to recognize and support excellence in teaching.
