Primary Position Function/Summary:

The Extension Program Coordinator works with aspects of marketing to ensure Extension and 4-H brand images are recognizable, consistent, and well represented to the public. The Extension Program Coordinator implements educational programs that are designed to foster the acquisition of knowledge and enable people to improve their lives and communities through learning partnerships that put knowledge to work. The Program Coordinator works collaboratively with Extension staff to identify community needs and develop programming strategies that meet those needs and align with strategic initiatives.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works under the leadership of the Unit County Director to enhance the visibility of University of Illinois Extension in the community by compiling information, creating promotionalmaterials, maintaining the unit website, participating in community presentations, assisting with the annual impact report, reporting program impacts to stakeholders, and collaborating with local community organizations.
  • Assists Extension Educators in developing and delivering programming opportunities that meet community needs and align with Extension mission and priority initiatives.
  • Assists Extension Educators with program planning, marketing, registration, event logistics, collection and compilation of program evaluation data, and the dissemination of educational materials. Facilitates programs and ensures the safety and welfare of participants.
  • Maintains media and contact lists for program promotion. Creates marketing materials using various mediums. Maintains a photo file of releases, pictures and videos from local activities to utilize when creating marketing and program reports.
  • Secures financial support (Extension agreements, grants, sponsorships, cost recovery, and donations) for program activities. Utilizes financial reports to evaluate program viability.
  • Maintains educational kits and displays, maintains a clean safe working environment.
  • Coordinates local Master Gardener and Master Naturalist programs.
  • Recruits, screens and selects participants for programs? orients volunteers regarding program philosophy, risk management and program policies and procedures? facilitates volunteer trainings and provides continuing educational opportunities? maintains contact with volunteers on a regular basis through meetings, calls and correspondence? provides opportunities for volunteer recognition? enforces standard operating procedures for all program activities, to ensure the safety and welfare of all volunteers.
  • Complies with all Extension policies and procedures including but not limited to fiscal and personnel policies, Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity requirements, and programming guidelines.
  • Complies with all University of Illinois Extension and USDA policies and procedures in programs and employment.
  • Participates in staff development and professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Assume additional related responsibilities to enhance the mission of the unit.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school graduation or GED
  2. Any one or any combination that equals four (4) years/ 48 months of responsible volunteer or professional work experience in coordinating educational and/or community programs or activities
    1. Volunteer/work experience coordinating educational and/or community programs or activities
    2. College coursework in any field of study
      • 60 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals three (3) years (36 months)
      • 120 semester hours or more equals four (4) years (48 months)

This Extension Program Coordinator position is a 100%-time, benefits-eligible Civil Service position. The work schedule is to be determined (37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year). The minimum salary is $19.48 per hour.
