Job Summary: The IT Technical Specialist III performs advanced professional IT activities for a specialized, complex assignment or functional area requiring application of an advanced professional knowledge of IT principles, practices, and procedures. Requires evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May supervise and/or direct the work of project teams or other lower level staff.

Additional Department Summary: This position plays a lead role in developing and implementing design standards for the UA web framework and other top-level University web resources. Responsible for the core visual design and interfaces for UA's website and institutional web framework, including templates and components for campus at large. Works very closely with a team of designers and developers to create web resources that are accessible, responsive, and standards-based to achieve user experience goals. This position plays a critical role in the development of a UA WordPress theme, a UA web system of design, the UA mobile app, and user interfaces for web and other digital resources. A successful candidate will be an analytical and creative designer who is able to identify diverse user needs, solve complex problems, develop prototypes, explain processes by which design decisions are made, and work collaboratively with others.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree ; OR Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of IT experience; OR Associate’s degree and four (4) years of IT experience; OR High School Diploma or GED and six (6) years of IT experience. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system, multimedia, instructional technology skills or project management methods and applications. May require intermediate or advanced level training or certification.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must include a link to an online portfolio of previous design work to be considered for this position.

Skills and Knowledge: High proficiency in HTML, CSS. Experience working in PHP and Javascript. High proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch or other design software. Familiarity with version control systems (Git, BitBucket, for example.) Familiarity with concepts and methodologies for creating and maintaining systems of design. Creating and editing websites in Wordpress, experience in designing custom themes is a plus. Strong communication skills, ability to explain complex technical concepts in a simple manner, and experience collaborating with others in a team environment. Knowledge of user experience/user interface principles and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in related field or bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, graphic design/art, marketing, public relations or related field and at least 3 years of experience in a web design, UX/UI design, web development or other digital design role. Experience building and managing websites in a content management system. Experience creating webpages that meet technology accessibility standards, specifically WCAG 2.0AA.
